Day 10

Rain, work, evening with Kay and forgotten plans...

The Day

Woke up with a bit of a headache around 5:30 and knew that it must be going to rain today, sadly the headache forecast was correct.  Not a good way to start the day after being unable to get to sleep until late last night (or should I say this morning).

Ended up working from home today, which was for the best anyway as I have high priority projects and working at home kept me from too many interruptions.

Did find out later in the day in a meeting that I have what could be a cold trip ahead of me early next month as it looks like I will be going to Niagara.  In just over a week I head to Vegas and Reno and then the following week I may be at the Poconos.  Now this trip may be either the week after Poconos or maybe a week in the office and then this trip.  Either way, Niagara in February sounds cold.  Hopefully I can get some good photos of a frozen falls.

With all the rush of changing projects this week I completely forgot that today was the 10th and that I had plans for playing poker tonight (with a 3 month drought between player it had completely fallen to the back of my mind).  Rachel was going skating and Kayla didn't want to go so I said she could stay at home with me.  It wasn't until we had gone to the mall for dinner, walked around the mall and then stopped at the pet store to see the puppies that I looked at my phone and saw the reminder.

It looks like I wasn't the only one to forget as I texted Steve to let him know that I couldn't make it and his response was "oh crap, that's tonight?"

Hate that I missed it as this group is one of a kind, if you ask me.  One member has not been going as of late and is missed but if you go back to when he was going it meant there were 7 of us going to poker regularly.  6 of the 7 of us all graduated together, in a graduating class size of 29... we have been out of school for going on 27 years and our poker nights started almost 14 years ago.  Two of the group are married to someone that we graduated with so of the poker families we represent almost a third of the class.

A few more numbers...  3 of us went to that school from kindergarten all the way through graduation so we have known each other for going on 40 years.  The "shortest" friendship of the group is one member that started in 8th grade so that is still going on 32 years.  We have also beat the odds so far where marriage is concerned as there are no divorces and with my 20th anniversary later this year it will put 5 of the 7 marriages at 20+ years.  One member is on his second marriage but that is a sad story as his first wife passed at a FAR too young age after losing a fight to cancer.

Tonight Kayla and I went to Johnny Rockets and then walked the mall a bit before stopping at the pet store on the way home to see the puppies.  After we got home we watched a little TV and played on the X-Box a little before Kay was tired and went to bed (early for her for a Friday).

Now I am watching a little TV (Monk) and will probably take the dogs out and maybe read a little.

No soda for 5 days!!!

The Photo

While at the pet store we saw a kitten that was very interested in watching the snake that was in the tank near the big kitten cage (wouldn't take its eyes off the tank)... of course there was one kitten above that one and out of the photo that was a mean cat that hissed at anyone that looked at it.
